i have a feeling (as mentioned in another board, right?) that 'smooth criminal' by alien ant farm will come in at around 3. and 'monsters' maybe 20-something. possible even in the high 'teens. that will do for now. 8)

I would say Captain BJ will be pretty damn close One of those will be no. 1 for sure Monsters maybe in the top 10 with a little luck, more likely in the teens, or even the 20s Three Dimensions will probably be in the 30s or 40s. Twenty Years will probably squeeze in near the end. Some pretty good calls there BJ. 'The Metre' will be in the top 5 for sure I'd say. Hopefully not no. 1, I think powderfinger are monopolising Oz music a little too much these days (I do like them though, don't get me wrong) 'Clint Eastwood' is a very big contender I'd say. Possibly no. 1, definately top 5. Their other song should be up there too. 'Island in the Sun' is a catchy little number I must say, doubt it would go no. 1 but top 10. for sure. 'Hash Pipe' will probably also be in the top 20 BJ's pretty much covered it all I think. I rarely listen to the radio, although I'd say everything he's mentioned will be high up. Some other songs which will be up there: Downtown - Alex Lloyd (around 40) Knives Out - Radiohead (around 35) Fall Down - Jebediah (around 50) Particular People - Pollyanna (around 80) Trees - Pulp (around 65) Here comes the night - Augie march (around 75) Bliss - Muse (around 35) Rockin' the Suburbs - Ben Folds (around 25) Untitled - Smashing Pumpkins (around 30) Can't really think of any more. I'm not up with the new-fangled music that the young people listen to these days. Alien Ant Farm shit me - Fuck off. So you've covered one song, big deal you tryhards. It sucked before and you've done nothing new with it. Go back to obscurity you one hit fucking wonders. whatever, good luck to sfk

I don't think the Hottest 100 is shit, although last years' sucked because they made mistakes. See my post on the SFK forum under "Vote for 20 years in Net 50"...
Powderfinger are probably my 3rd favourite band (Pearl Jam are 2nd) so I was stoked they got two in a row. I don't think they can do it again though, Like A Dog, Waiting For The Sun or The Metre don't have the legs.
One thing I love about the Hottest 100 is the barbecue, it's an excuse to start drinking at 9 or 10am. Plus we have a pool going for what's #1... like a Hottest 100 sweep... Encourages people to get there early so they can get the song they want. I got My Happiness last year. Put 3 songs down at $2 a pop and ended up with enough for a slab. Sweet. ;D
Pretty Fly was novelty that was released at the right time, when everyone voted for it they loved it but it got overplayed and became one of the most loathed songs in H100 history. And killed The Offspring's career in my opinion.
I just think that it can get skewed because teenyboppers vote in the Hottest 100 because it's an event, they probably don't listen to JJJ any other day of the year. I consider the "real" number one to be the highest one that wasn't played on any other station. 2000 Frontier Psychiatrist. 1999 You Shit Me To Tears (although that's a bit novelty so we'll give it to Every Me, Every You) 1998 was an awesome countdown after #1... Ben Lee, Custard, Regurgitator, Jedediah, Powderfinger, You Am I, Living End were all Aussie artists with top 10 songs that were all JJJ. Korn also got in there, so it shows that it's not always teenybopper shit.
I wish there was a way to get rid of end-of-year bias. Songs like Grinspoon Secrets, 28 Days Sucker and the like suffered from being big songs too early.

I wouldn't say I'm an authority on it... I just have a good memory.
I think it would be even cooler to get a B side like Submarine or Green Line into the H100... We'd need to spread it around heaps of people though... We should agree on a song and get everyone we know to vote for it, and to put it on all SFK message boards. It might just sneak in.
My vote is for Green Line Is Us, Red Line Is Them
Also with write-ins, we'd have to make sure that we all have the right spelling, same case etc...

that's such a great idea about the barbeque and the sweep I should organise to do that this year - in fact, we all should get together and cheer on sfk. That would be so cool

OK here's my prediction... Note the time this was posted:
1. Alex Lloyd - Amazing 2. Something for Kate - Monsters 3. Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood 4. Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal 5. System of a Down - Chop Suey 6. Weezer - Island in the Sun 7. Gorillaz - 19-2000 8. 28 Days/Apollo 440 - Say What 9. Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At 10. Sum 41 - Fat Lip
OK so I might be way off... worth a stab though.
