I saw Stuart's on the front page and read someone else's on Chapel-street... I'd love to read everyone else's stories...
Here's mine: I was never much of a music person, only ever listened to my sister's old Nirvana and Pearl Jam CDs... Anyway I decided to listen to the radio more and became a bit of a Net 50 person, as I was home most Saturday nights (I was in Year 12) and at the time they were playing both versions of Harpoon. I liked the Jebs version better (and still do) but also really liked the SFK version. Anyway then not long after, they release Electricity. I think the Avalanches also had a song called Electricity at the time and assumed without hearing either that SFK liked to cover songs while the original was still popular. Anyway I finally caught Electricity and loved it straight off. It's still my favourite SFK song. Anyway Beautiful Sharks did very well on the best albums of 1999, #3 on both the voters' and on Richard Kingsmill's list. So since I also liked Hallways and Whatever You Want, I decided to invest in a copy of the album, loved it from the first listen and haven't looked back.

I'm a bit of a new sfk fan, and a newbie to this board too. I go to a girls school, where everyone's into hip hop and rnb and crap like destiny's child and shaggy. I actually was looking at a music chart and saw that sfk (whom i knew was a alternative band) had debuted at no. 2 with Echolalia. So i bought it. Besides, i liked the guitar in Monsters...

i know this sounds pretty lame but...
i saw the ad for echolalia on tv and heard monsters (u know that long ad they did where they basically played half the film clip) and i fell in love with the song. When i heard 3 dimensions i decided i'd have to get into this band. I now have echolalia, beautiful sharks, elsewhere for 8 and q & a with dean martin. i love them all and i love something for kate.

It all began when I was 14, and Beautiful Sharks had just been released. I had never really heard much of their stuff before, but when the album got released, it got played lots on JJJ, and I liked what I had heard, but wasn't hooked. Then-my Dad told me he was gonna buy me a CD, and asked me which one I wanted. I'd been wanting Pearl Jams Yield album for awhile (being 14 I never had enough money to buy CDs for myself!), so I asked him to get that for me. Then he asked me what to get if he couldn't find that. I couldn't really think of any others I really wanted, so I just sort of blurted out Something For Kates album, without too much thought. Because my real name is Kate, my Dad thought that SFKs name was really funny, cos if he brought me a "Something For kate" album, he would really be getting "Something For Kate." ::)So instead of getting me the Pearl Jam album, he got me Beautiful Sharks, thinking I'd get a big kick out of it. I didn't think it was all that amusing, but after giving it a couple of spins on my CD player, they were my favourite band, and have been to this day.

I had just turned 18, but i had heard of this band before. They had played at a local under age thing, so i knew who they were. Anyway, my ex-girlfriend's parents had got me a music voucher so in i went looking around, when i spied the Triple J live at the wireless CD. I had a browse through it and saw a few bands and songs that i liked so i decided to get it. My ex had borrowed it off me and when she gave it back she said that on the cd there was an awesome version of Captain by something for kate. I said that i honestly hadn't heard it, so she played it to me and i was instantly hooked. The next week i went to Gaslight and Au Go Go and bought all the SFK CD's i could find. I ran into the ex recently, and she saw my collection and she said she wants to write to Paul and ask for a commission because she introduced me to them! With the bands success, i find myself torn. I am so happy for Paul, Clint and Steph because this is what they deserve, but as a long time fan, it's sad that my little unknown band is now VERY well known. But oh well, as long as Paul's lyrics and music reach out to people, i guess i should be happy!

yeah, i remember when i used to say my favourite band was something for kate, all i would get was blank stares and a lot of people asking "who?". i hated it at the time, but now everyone knows who they are, everyone has an opinion too. i miss it. its good for them though, and its selfish wanting them to stay unknown forever. ah well.

A friend had mentioned them and i'd also heard a few of the songs from beautiful sharks, so in need of some new music i bought it, and proceeded to listen to it constantly, I then bought elsewhere (i love pinstripe, i think most do) and dean martin. Echolalia came out and of course i had to add to my collection and got it. Yeah i also feel a bit nostalgic about the olds times when i'd get blank faces when mentioning my fav band. Ah well, i'm still extrememly happy for the group =)
oo and i bought singularity tickets yesterday! yay!
